Day 18: The Bad Day

Photo of the Day: Out My Bedroom Window

It was beautiful when I woke up this morning, as you can see from the photo above, but it was all downhill from there. Today was just one of those days. It was already a drag returning to work after a glorious long weekend, but add to that interminable back-to-back-to-back meetings, a late night at the office, and at least one awful, gut-dropping FML moment that spectacularly showcased my ineptitude, and you've got an idea how my day went. Fortunately, being in New York, the guilty indulgences are just around the corner. I returned to two proven comfort spots: the famous halal cart and Magnolia Bakery, which featured a decadent chocolate truffle concoction today. The food didn't make it all better and probably wasn't the smartest choice for my bank account, but it certainly helped incrementally improve my mood. Now its time to watch episodes of Lost in bed and turn in for my first early night since arriving. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some happy surprises.

Meetings, meetings, meetings. On the plus side, this particular meeting was informative and interesting, but on the downside, it lasted until 7:30 p.m.
Waiting in line at the halal cart. Food is such an easy security blanket.
Mr. Halal Cart doesn't look too happy either.
My little highlight of the day: a chocolate truffle cupcake from Magnolia Bakery. Good things do come in small packages.

  1. Ugh.. sorry to hear about your bad day! :-/ That really sucks. But hey.. you're new, and everyone makes mistakes. Your comfort food looks totally delicious... I don't think you went too overboard with that. Hope your day today goes better!

  3. Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! I learned that comfort food doesn't solve all, but it sure doesn't hurt either (in moderation, of course)! ;)

  4. Did anyone in your office meeting find it weird that you were taking photos in the back during it?

re: Mr. Halal cart. You should really get people's permission before you take their photo... you never know!

  5. No, I only snapped this one, quick, indiscreet picture. Everyone was watching the presentation, so I don't think anyone even knew. This was actually an orientation for some of our volunteers, and I was just an observer sitting the in back of the room.

What might I not know? Technically it is in my legal rights as a photographer to take his picture without his verbal or written permission.
