Day 47: The Cake

Photo of the Day: Patisserie

Today was my boss's birthday, and I was charged with buying the cake for our office celebration. Having no idea where to buy good desserts en masse, I asked a recommendation from my friend Talida, whose opinion I highly value when it comes to great food (check out her mouth-watering blog devoted to her baking exploits!). She pointed me to Financier Patisserie, an amazing local French pastry shop two blocks from my building. I settled on a decadent cake of praline mousse and Italian sponge cake topped with a chocolate ganache and glaze. It was oh-so-scrumptious—super rich and delicate at the same time—and was a huge hit among my colleagues. In my humble opinion, it definitely ranks among the top bakeries in New York!

  2. It's two blocks from my office. I'm so upset that I'm finding out about all these great places now! If you had come just one month later, the places I'd have taken you to would be very different. It's ok though...I can still bring back some treats for you when I visit Houston, so you can sample everything without all the walking!

  4. hmm really?? you gotta tell me your food recommendations! actually, i'm sure they will continue to evolve the more time you've lived up there. i should ask right before making a trip there, whenever that may be.

  6. Took the words right from me - that cake sounds and looks mouthwatering!

The cake looks so small though - how many people are in your office?

  7. Soooo delicious! It was a 7" round, but we managed to feed eight people with some leftover. It was really rich, so you couldn't eat much in one sitting anyway!
