Day 45: The Playtime

Photo of the Day: Get Storied

Not much going on today, the highlight being a conference call I joined this evening to hear about the planning of the online Reinvention Summit being hosted next month by Get Storied. I won't bore you with details, but it's basically a virtual event centered around creating personal and organizational narratives, something that is very professionally pertinent to me as both a nonprofit marketer and a former journalist. There was some really interesting conversation about the future of storytelling as a powerful tool for spurring change and action, and I'm actually hoping to gather ideas from this conference that will shape my future career. Incidentally, that guy on the book cover in the Photo of the Day was talking as this picture was being taken. Don't worry, my phone was on mute, so he couldn't hear the shutter clicking.

Afterward I decided to be social and spend some time with my host family. Or namely, with Kayla, the three-year-old daughter of the house who monopolized the rest of my night. I made her a flower and a duck out of Play-Doh (a skill I learned from my own babysitter when I was a kid), baked (fake) cupcakes, and ate (real) blueberries. She loves babies, so I also showed her home movies of my little niece Zoey and later segued into online episodes of Strawberry Shortcake. It was nice having a domestic evening of innocence, and I have missed the imaginative joy that comes with child's play.

Sitting at my desk, as interpreted by my bedroom window.

Kayla going crazy with the cupcake wrappers.
Kayla offers me a plastic cupcake from her kitchen.

  3. @Evelyn: No, it's KO Josh...not Oom yet!

@Daisy: Aw, thanks, Vince! I didn't even think this post was that good, haha. I think this counts as a photo blog! And I do want to create a real online portfolio some time, I just haven't had time to chart one out. When I finally launch one, I want to make sure I do it right!

  4. Haha, the picture of me in the window was actually quite manufactured. That was me trying to look nonchalant as I precariously positioned my camera just outside of the reflection and hoped I was angling the shot correctly.
